Common Grammar Mistakes to Avoid in Exams
Grammar doesn’t just test your knowledge—it shows your accuracy and control of English. In speaking and writing, grammar mistakes can lower your score. But with awareness and regular practice, you can fix the most common ones.
1. Subject-Verb Agreement

❌ He study every day.
Always match the verb to the subject in number and person.
2. Tense Confusion
✅ I have lived here for five years. (still true now)
❌ I lived here for five years. (finished)
Make sure you choose the right tense for the context.
3. Sentence Fragments or Run-Ons
✅ Although the exam was hard, I finished it.
❌ Although the exam was hard.
❌ The exam was hard I finished it.
Use correct punctuation and connectors.
Grammar Focus:
Modal Verbs (can, should, must, might, etc.)
Modals show ability, advice, or possibility:
You should revise regularly.
He might be late.
Don’t add "to" after modals:
