Prosperity Education at the 15th ELT Malta Conference 2026

Prosperity Education was delighted to participate in the 15th ELT Malta Conference, held on 23–24 October 2026, joining around 250 English language teaching professionals for two days of presentations, workshops and discussions on the future of ELT.

Organised by Malta's ELT Council, the annual conference has become an important fixture in the international English language teaching calendar. This year's event, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Malta in Qawra, celebrated 15 years of the conference under the theme Excellence in ELT: Professional Learning, Well-being and Innovation.

The conference brought together teachers, academic managers, school directors, researchers, publishers and education specialists from Malta and around the world, providing opportunities for professional development, networking and the exchange of ideas.

Malta: a thriving international ELT destination

Malta has long established itself as one of Europe's leading destinations for English language learning. With English as an official language, a Mediterranean setting and a well-developed network of language schools, the island attracts international students seeking to combine language education with cultural and travel experiences.

The country's ELT industry is an important contributor to its education and tourism sectors, supported by established schools, experienced teaching professionals and organisations including the ELT Council and the Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations Malta (FELTOM).

The scale of the annual conference, attracting approximately 250 delegates, reflects the strength of this community and Malta's continuing commitment to professional standards, educational innovation and teacher development.

Two days of professional learning and innovation

The conference featured an extensive programme of presentations and practical workshops addressing some of the most significant issues facing English language education today.

Three plenary presentations formed the centrepiece of the programme.

Professor Thomas S.C. Farrell, Professor of Applied Linguistics at Brock University, Canada, delivered the opening plenary, 10 Principles of Effective Teaching for Teacher Well Being. His presentation explored how teachers can overcome periods of professional stagnation, rediscover enthusiasm for teaching and maintain their well-being through reflective and effective teaching practices.

On the second day, Dorothy Zemach, internationally recognised ELT author, teacher trainer and materials specialist, presented Using Metaphor for Teaching and Learning. Drawing on her experiences in music and language education, she explored how metaphors can help teachers better understand their professional practice and the learning process.

The final plenary was delivered by Luis Javier Penton Herrera, the 2024 TESOL Teacher of the Year, whose presentation, Teacher Well-being as a Foundation for Excellence in ELT, emphasised the importance of placing teachers' professional and personal well-being at the heart of sustainable, effective education.

Together, the three plenaries reinforced a central message of the conference: that excellence in English language teaching depends not only on effective methodologies and new technologies, but also on supporting and developing the people who deliver education.

Beyond the plenaries, the programme covered a broad range of contemporary ELT topics, including leadership and school management, teacher education, learner motivation, inclusive teaching, sustainability and the growing influence of artificial intelligence.

AI was a particularly prominent subject. Sessions examined its potential to support language learning and assessment, while also raising important questions about learner independence, authentic language development and the responsible use of emerging technologies.

The conference also included a dedicated business and management programme, with presentations exploring institutional innovation, leadership, continuing professional development and the practical challenges of running successful language schools.

Showcasing Prosperity English for Schools

Prosperity Education attended the conference alongside our established Maltese distributor, Miller/Agenda Textbooks, with a particular focus on introducing our AI-powered assessment and exam-preparation platform, Prosperity English for Schools, to Malta's English language teaching community.

As part of the conference's business and management programme, Tom O'Reilly, Director of Prosperity Education, delivered a presentation entitled: Placement Testing in Practice: Using AI-Based Assessment to Support Learning and Teaching

The presentation demonstrated how Prosperity English enables schools to use AI-powered placement and diagnostic assessment to better understand learners' abilities, identify strengths and weaknesses, and make more informed decisions about course placement and classroom teaching.

Particular emphasis was placed on the platform's adaptive CEFR placement testing, detailed diagnostic reports and the ways in which assessment data can support student grouping, targeted teaching and lesson planning.

The session also introduced the wider Prosperity English offering, including Cambridge English examination practice, AI-assisted grading of Writing and Speaking tasks, and detailed performance feedback for teachers and learners.

Our participation reflected the growing importance of digital assessment within language education and the opportunities for schools to use meaningful assessment data to support more personalised and effective learning.

Working with our Maltese distributor

It was a pleasure to attend the conference alongside Miller/Agenda Textbooks, our distribution partner in Malta.

Working with an established local distributor provides valuable opportunities to introduce our publishing and digital assessment resources to schools and educators across the Maltese market.

The conference offered an excellent setting in which to strengthen these relationships, meet members of the local ELT community and discuss how Prosperity Education's resources can complement existing teaching and assessment practices.

Looking ahead

The 15th ELT Malta Conference demonstrated the energy, professionalism and international outlook of Malta's English language teaching industry.

Across two days, the programme highlighted the importance of balancing technological innovation with sound pedagogy, professional development and teacher well-being — themes that will undoubtedly continue to shape the future of ELT.

We would like to thank the ELT Council Malta for organising such a comprehensive event, our partners at Miller/Agenda Textbooks for their support, and everyone who took the time to meet us and learn more about Prosperity English.

We look forward to continuing our work with Malta's ELT community and supporting schools with effective assessment, diagnostic testing and Cambridge English examination preparation.
