OET Reading … out now!
Six practice tests for the Occupational English Test
Here at Prosperity Education we recognise that great exam skills come from practice and familiarity with the format of the exam, so we’re delighted to announce the publication of our first book designed to support healthcare professionals on their OET journey.
This edition of sample tests has been written to closely replicate the Occupational English Test experience, and has undergone rigorous expert and peer review. Students will appreciate the wide range of practical and relevant texts, and benefit from the repetitive practice, something that is key to preparing for this part of the examination.
Dr. Alecia Banfield (MBBS, MPH, TEFL/TESOL) is a Medical English specialist and a certified OET Premium Preparation Partner who has helped thousands of healthcare professionals achieve exam success.
The resource comprises:
Six Reading tests (Parts A–C) with answer keys, providing a large bank of high-quality practice material for students preparing for the Occupational English Test (OET) Reading sub-test.
The Occupational English Test (OET)
The OET is an English test designed especially for healthcare workers, and is recognised globally as a qualification that demonstrates skills in English, assessing professional language communication skills specifically within the high-stake contexts of clinical and non-clinical healthcare. It is accepted by governments and immigration authorities as evidence of advanced English comprehension and production, and it is currently available for 12 professions: Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science. Candidates may take either a paper- or computer-based test, and this choice can impact aspects of their preparation.
The test itself consists of four subtests: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, and candidates must pass all four subtests to be considered successful. This ensures that OET candidates are genuinely able to comprehend and produce English independently, competently and appropriately within the full range of standard, on-the-job communication modalities. All professions take the same Reading and Listening subtests, while the Writing and Speaking subtests are profession-specific.
The different kinds of textual content and layout presented in the OET Reading paper require candidates to not only be confident in their control of language but also proficiently display a range of strategies and skills for parts A, B and C.
