Jack Valentine

Valentine's Day is tomorrow. But do you know about this tradition from the East of England?

The tradition of Jack Valentine is a custom observed in the county of Norfolk on Valentine's Eve, the night before Valentine's Day. Jack Valentine is said to be a secretive character who knocks on doors, leaves small gifts, and disappears before being caught. Children eagerly anticipate Jack Valentine's arrival, while adults enjoy the playful spirit of the tradition. Sometime Jack leaves a gift, sometimes a trick such as a lump of coal, and sometimes the present is attached to a piece of string and pulled away at the last minute.

One great thing about Jack is that he can visit anyone, not just lovers, meaning nobody needs to miss out!
