The most widely spoken native language in Europe is Russian.
Some 140 million people in Europe speak Russian as their native language. It’s a pretty big country – the largest in the world by area, in fact, and the most populous country in Europe.
Of the 250 different languages spoken in the region, English is the 6th most common with roughly 60 million native speakers. However, there are approximately 200 million people living in Europe for whom English is a second language, making it the most widely spoken European language of all.
